I have a preschooler who likes to eat at McDonalds but almost everytime we go to the one in ripley either I see a disgusting way the food is prepared or later we all catch a cold. To resolve this I have to listen to a screaming youngster while we drive to another town to eat. It is not fair to expect a child to understand. Am I the only one that notices this? I have been keeping snacks and crackers ready for the 20 min drive to another town but that usually ruines an appetite. Comments Please

I have a preschooler that enjoys(demands) to eat at McDonalds on occasion and the theory of a place to go for a quick meal on the go is convienient sometimes. Almost everytime(few) that we have eaten at the one in Ripley either I have to leave after noticing disgusting food preparation,or shortly afterward we all catch a cold. Am I the only one that notices this? It is disheartening and difficult to explain to a three year old that he can't eat there. Then when you drive to another town to eat it teaches him not to be involved with his home town. Comments please.

To Gripe: The McDonald's in Ripley is probably run by the same people as the Walmart "so called Supercenter" in Ripley is run by. I do not do any business at Walmart in Ripley nor McDonald's. It a crying shame that we Lauderdale Countians cannot spend our tax dollars in our own county because of some of the people that are running these major franchises. I have come to the conclusion that the Ripley Walmart and the Ripley McDonald's is just a training ground for new managers, and they just don't know ANYTHING about running a business, ie. how to treat customers, how to prepare orders, etc. There are times that I have to stop and pick up those little things you just have to have before coming home after work, but I WILL NOT go to Walmart in Ripley. I will either go Ace Hardware or Dollar General where I am treated like a VALUABLE customer. I will absolutely not bring home supper from McDonald's either. So, who do you call to let them know your complaints? It is not 1-800-Walmart, because I have already tried that and obviously that doesn't help either.

Don't get me started on wal-mart in Ripley. I have dealt with wal-mart in bentonville(main office) and they are pretty decent people to deal with. For some reason when you go to Ripley w/mart several of the people act like if you get a good product for a good price either you're a cheap s.o.b. or you did them a personal injustice. There are some nice people at the Ripley store but the grumpy one's overshadow the nice one's. If they hate being there that much STAY HOME! don't make the rest of us feel guilty about going there and needing something. "gripe"

I have never been treated like I have been treated by any store around in the surrounding counties, as the Walmart "so called Supercenter" in Ripley has treated me. They have the most rudest people working there (I guess I should most of the people are rude, not all), the managers and the so called women who are over the registers are very rude and very unhelpful. I have called once, not twice, but three times to the main office to complain, but everytime I went into that store something else stupid would happen. Finally, I have had my fill and I DO NOT go into that store. I haven't been in there in over a year, and I will not go back again.

I drove by the Ripley Walmart today, and how many Walmart's have you seen with a big box trailer right at the front door with the painting on the side that read, "See Large Gigantic Live Snake". I know exactly what you mean. Who do children trust the most when they are that young? Hopefully, they would trust their parents. I am sure that they trusted their mom the most, and the fear that was going through their little minds that something was wrong with mom and then the fear of being held underwater. That is one sick mom! I wish that someone could have picked up on the fact that there was something seriously wrong with her and got those children away from her. There is so much abuse that is going on, even in our own communities, that we don't even know about.

Well, I broke down and went to Wal Mart on the 4th for the usual two or three forgotten items. Got to the Express Checkout Lane, 20 items or less 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., only to stand in line behind a Wal Mart employee with 163 items. Of course every checkout had 4 or more people in it. They certainly are concerned with service when even their own employees can follow their guidelines. I understand why they don't ask cutomers to change lines, but if it's an employee I sure would. Oh yeah, the manager was using the phone at the adjoining checkout and saw the employee in the line with all the items...she was more worried about getting somewhere to burn her cigarette than taking care of her customers.

I figured you must work at Walmart if you go there 5 times a week. Rude? Yes, they are rude, they don't know where NOTHING is, don't bother trying to find it, nor will they find someone who would know where something was either. By all means, don't ever go into Walmart in Ripley if you are in hurry. You can go in there on a FRIDAY afternoon after work, having 25 or more registers available, and there will be 2 or 3 cashiers with 8 to 10 people in each line and you will have to just stand there and wait. The express lane, what a joke, there will be someone there with a cart FULL of groceries trying to check out and you are standing there in a hurry with your 2 or 3 items. That is if they even have the express lane open, which most of the time they don't. May be they do that for the holidays! I could feel this chalkboard UP with things that have happened to me and other friends who have gone into that store. I WILL NOT go back in that store. If Ace Hardware or Save A Lot doesn't have it, I will do without it. Ripley Walmart "so called Supercenter" doesn't have anything that I couldn't do without. I will go to Ace or Save A Lot where I will be treated with respect, kindness, and as a valuable customer by HELPFUL employees who want and enjoy their jobs. Unlike the employees and MANAGERs of Walmart.

May be it doesn't bother SOME people, but I don't have time for their garbage at Walmart. There is another example of how the managers run the Walmart here. I still think that Ripley is a training ground for managers anyway. Go to Ace or Save A Lot or the Dollar Store!!!!

I stayed single for 30 yrs. Got all of my wild oats out of my system and found someone to put up with me. I've been married over 9 yrs. with one child. Guess where I found my bride? I didn't go looking either. Church. Put your life in God's hands and he will take care of you. I attended the same church for 4 yrs before God found someone to marry me and the foundation makes it last. Believe me, I was no angel and have to work everyday to stay on the right path, you never know if you will like it until you try (church) but remember that you are always welcome. Nothing gives a good feeling like a morning service on Sunday. Remember, church is for you and God, its not a fashion show, go, relax, have a rewarding time, and remember that the only thing stopping you is you. If you need a ride ask someone if you can go as a guest and usually you will be offered a ride if you need one. May God Bless You. He sure gave me a chance.

Where's the leadership? I happened to be at the first meeting of the Halls High Booster Club last night where they were to elect new officers. When the floor was opened for nominations, there were a couple and each person declined the nomination. It finally took a motion to disband the Booster Club to get people to accept a leadership role. Why are people so reluctant to take thankless jobs? Sure the pay is lowsy, no one ever says thank you, but if you're they're to support the athletes, why not do so with a title behind your name?

Okay, here's a scenario: The faith based initiative passes, what does Dubya do when the Church of Satan applies to administer funds? The constitution guarantees religious freedom, so theoretically, any religion has to be eligible to satisfy constitutionality, but Dubya's supporters are primarily Christians, whom I don't imagine are going to be crazy about forking over a couple of hundred thousand to the Church of Satan, how will this play out?

first of all, i think the attack on the innocent people going about their business in the WTC was a horrendous act of war; a cowardly one at that. it was also one that we should have been better prepared for, especially in this day and age. with all our technological know how, we were still unable to prevent this from happening. personally, i am surprised an attack has not happened before now. the attackers did not go after the obvious easy targets such as major sporting events with large numbers of people for example, a UT football game with over 100,000 people in attendance. they went after targets that should have had the highest level of security. if this is a sign of how well we protect Washington, DC and New York, we are in a heap of trouble. steps have been taken to prevent a situation such as this in the future, but realistically it could happen again. not to be negative, but i do not feel that this will be the last attack on American soil. i am glad someone had the presence of mind to keep Ronald Reagan National Airport closed for the time being. i am in agreement with those wanting to relocate the airport. someone was not thinking when they built the airport in its current location. upon takeoff planes are headed directly toward the Pentagon. there is virtually no time to distinguish whether a plane is commandeered by cowards on a suicide mission or if it is on a regular flight plan. we will have to wait and see how this all plays out. once before we had air marshalls aboard our commercial flights. we had no hijackings then. the air marshalls were taken out and now we see what happens. there are many, many people within our country that do not like us. i wonder why we educate them to become doctors, scientists, pilots, etc? we are basically teaching the enemy how to harm our people. a doctor in residence at the University of Texas has now been arrested. the doctor has been linked to a flight which crashed last week. prior to his arrest he was scheduled for a flight on September 22. that flight has now been cancelled. this Saturday appears to be the time of the next planned attack either in the United States or abroad. we are now scrambling to round up anyone associated with the World Trade Center and Pentagon attackers. this is a long way from being over.

Well, at least YOU knew what I meant with what I said before about "What is next"? If people from other lands can come over and take over 4 planes without any notice, what is next? The whole east coast, west coast, what next? Why do we teach these people how to do things anyway, ie. flying, medical, etc.? Why would America let these people into the country to start with?

i recently read an article about the celebrities being banned from ground zero. several celebs have been there gawking at the devastation. they have also been disrupting the workers, thus putting the workers in even more danger. a couple of the baldwin boys are some of the celebs that were mentioned. i thought that Republican hating, Bush trashing, alec baldwin had left the country. he said he was going to leave the country if Bush became President. well alec.....George W. Bush is our President. what are you still doing here? go fight for the taliban you traitor! those celebs are so special. what would we do without them?

This is all very confusing to all of us. My immediate concern is my family. How do I know we will be protected at our present location? What kind of protection do these actions warrant? Sure running over there to show our strength is important, but what is in place to protect us here in the Mid-South?

be sure to add your comments to materterra. i had to just jump right in on this one. first of all, i do believe as a nation we will experience more terrorist attacks. these idiots are patient, but i think things will escalate a bit when we attack afghanistan. as far as Lauderdale County is concerned, i do not think you have much to worry about. terrorists probably will not be attacking a community that is known primarily for (to borrow from materterra's name) tomato farming. if the terrorists have ever seen the movie "Attack of the Killer Tomatoes", you can rest assured they will not be messing with us. second of all, if they do attack us, especially the city of Halls, we can always call the Halls police dispatcher who is actually located in Ripley. help should be arriving in a few hours. i am not knocking the law enforcement officers here. all i am saying is that a dispatcher located in Halls 24/7 would better serve our town. third, i think our military will annihilate the opposition. i would not be surprised to learn that we unleashed some isolated nuclear attacks on those taliban moles. i do not think President Bush would have used the phrase "smoke them out of their holes" if he was planning to use conventional means to destroy these terrorists. i do not think we are going over there to show our military power. everyone already knows of our military power. i think our military personnel are on a seek and destroy mission to rid our world of these lowlifes.

I personally do not believe that we as a small county will be attacked either. Just look though, there are whatI guess you can call "terroist" that live amongst us. Like the Oklahoma Bombing. This was an American citizen! The trouble at the post office that occured a few years back - that was an American citizen! We have to worry about our own people in the USA too. I worry about us all, but I am trying to keep living my life as I always did before. I just hope this time they get the main man behind this whole operation, and not leave him like they did Sadam Hussein. May be they will get him this time too.

have you noticed that all the anthrax seems to be sent to only liberal democrats? Daschle, Brokaw, Rather, and the USPS have anthrax letters. the USPS's upper management always push for democratic presidential candidates. they are afraid the Republicans will privatize them. you have not heard of anthrax letters going to Republican leaders. what about the Conservative Fox News Channel? Britt Hume has not received an anthrax letter. have you heard anything about Rush Limbaugh, Matt Drudge, or any other Conservative receiving anthrax letters? with the letters going to only liberals, i believe this may be a domestic problem. has any one of you thought much about the source of the letters?

is it true that j.r. is remodeling the hen house into a beauty shop for his sweet thang? see if we can help them with a name for this new business venture. how about hen house hairdos? he better watch his p's and q's on this one. if the judge decides to split hen house hairdos in half (whew...say that ten times), then sue ellen may decide to open up a business too. the new name then could be hen house hairdos & my ex-wife's video store. who knows....she may want to get into the hog business. that would sure stink up things. a name for that could be hen house hairdos & hog parlor. if he gets to keep it all, it could become hen house hairdos & harleys. i would not be spending too much money just yet, if i were j.r. what is going to happen if his sweet thang flies the coop? i can see j.r. now....ma'..am...while yore perm is setting would you like yore nails done?

Does anyone remember when "skid row" in Ripley was demolished and most of the rif-raf went to Henning to stand on the street corners? I noticed that some of them are setting up shop again right out in the open again in Ripley. What happened? Have the same people that supposedly tried to clean up this town gotten relaxed or do they still care. Watch and see if crime starts to rise again.
